Welcome to KCS Building Materials
In this section you’ll discover answers to any questions which might arise when you come to choose and buy the right building materials.
When cooking, quality ingredients are as important as the skill in putting them together. And it’s the same with your home improvements. Getting the best construction materials won’t guarantee that your project’s a success. But using the wrong or poor quality ones will likely result in ultimate failure. If you’re lucky you may get results which look OK to start off with but what about six months down the line. Poor choice of building materials will stick out like a sore thumb
Do you ever wonder-
What the rooms on ‘Changing Rooms’ look like years after the cameras went? They’ve probably disintegrated altogether. No bad thing perhaps, but low quality construction materials will show through sooner than you think and in the long run that makes them expensive.
But choosing the right building materials might make all the difference. And cheap doesn’t necessarily mean poor quality any more. The skill is in choosing the right construction materials in the first place and if necessary limiting your choices to building materials which are cheaper regardless of grade. If you want granite kitchen surfaces you’ll have to pay the going price for top quality granite. As in most things in life you get what you pay for. So in this instance if your budget will not stretch, you may well be better off with a high quality laminate or hard wood. We’ll be advising on what materials work best in any job.
Cheap building materials are the bane of many professionally managed projects and it’s not unknown for contractors to arrive at a lower quote by skimping on the quality of the construction materials they price for. Didn’t the Titanic sink for want of quality rivets? Well that’s one theory. The iceberg wasn’t blameless.
The right prices
There’s a remarkable variation in prices for the same things. You’ve likely heard the term ‘they saw us coming’. Well that’s truer than you may think. If it’s obvious that you have no idea how to get the best prices it’s likely you’ll get the worst. Discounting for bulk or shopping around is the norm when it comes to selling and buying construction materials. And the reason is obvious. If you’re buying building materials it’s not likely you’re in the market for one brick. Even for a relatively small project your budget for the construction materials is a tidy sum. So your business is worth having
So it may not always be the best bet to go somewhere like the big DIY retail park outlets for what you need. A specialist supplier of building materials may be a better alternative. But you’ll need some knowledge to back you up and negotiate convincingly
We’ll be publishing a series of articles to help with every aspect of your choice and purchasing of construction materials
Sustainable Building Methods
